SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): **** This is a fun-loving, playful time! Enjoy travelling or doing something to "get away from all this." Or you might explore your own city by visiting places you've never been to before? (Most of us are in a comfortable rut with familiar stores and restaurants.) Break free! I love it when my horiscope seems to be talking directly to me! Last Sunday, the Garcias invited the Rossmans and me to drive to a Mexican seafood restaurant I had not been to before. Colillia is on the Barra de Navidad lagoon but instead of arriving by boat via the town of Barra de Navidad, we drove through the beautiful Isla Golf Club. to the tiny village within its confines. The restaurant began as a small palapa roof on stilts and kept enlarging as its fame about its food and great location grew and is now a very large, bustling restaurant. The ceviche starter and lobster tails, washed down with an icy margarita, were delicious. I'd happily return if I get an opportunity. |
As Easter gets closer,, friends from the north begin to leave to leave their rented casas for Mexican families who arrive from Colima and Guadajara to take their place in this beach destination. Easter is a bigger celebration time for Mexicans than Christmas. The holiday period starts with the beginning of Holy Week and continues for two weeks. Manzanillo gets crowded with Mexican holidayers, traffic is crazy, cars parked helter skelter, store shelves become bare, beaches are covered by family-sized umbrellas, soccer ball players, naked toddlers, and food and drink laden coolers.abound. Casas overflow with holiday visitors, pools fill with noisy, fun-loving kids and adults. Music and laughter fill the air. You watch in awe at the love and fun and I wonder why can't the whole world be like Mexico at Easter-time.
The non-stop partying I've been experiencing since I arrived draws to a close as I move into a quieter time (for me). Long-time friends that live here are now the more important part of my life as we find more time for each other. Long hours of fascinating one-on-one conversation with them fill my time. It's exciting to learn things about them that I had no idea before, as subject matters pop up that are a delightful surprise. Listening intently, without criticism, as wanton thoughts and memories spill forth enriching us.
Tonight I sent an uplifting story to a long list of friends, some I hadn't reached out to in years. Only minutes ago, as I am writing this blog, I received a response from a Mexican friend I haven't seen or heard from for at least six years. We are getting together for lunch next week. Undoubtedly we'll have some great stories to share.
